Chinoiserie wallpaper brings the hand-painted elegance of East Asian-inspired art to one uninterrupted wall. Every design in this collection is a wall mural rather than a repeating pattern, printed to the exact size of your wall in our Johannesburg studio. Expect cranes and storks in flight, weeping willows, blossoming branches, misty mountain landscapes and lush oriental florals. Several scenes come in a choice of grounds, from soft beige, peach and grey to green and teal, while deep midnight backgrounds create a moodier look. A chinoiserie mural works beautifully behind a bed, along a dining room wall or in an entrance hall where it greets guests. Preview your wall in the room visualiser, then choose Peel & Stick for a renter-friendly install or Traditional for a long-term finish. Explore more wall murals, bird wallpaper or floral murals.
Chinoiserie is a European decorative style inspired by Chinese and East Asian art, popular since the 1700s. It typically features cranes and other birds, flowering branches, willows and misty landscapes in a painterly, hand-drawn style. Today it feels both classic and fresh, especially in dining rooms, bedrooms and entrance halls.
Classic chinoiserie was painted as one continuous scene across a room, so a mural is the most faithful way to recreate it. Each design is printed to the exact width and height of your wall, so the birds and branches flow without a visible repeat and you only pay for the wall you are covering.
Pale beige, peach and grey grounds keep a room light and suit smaller or south-facing spaces. Green and teal feel fresh and pair well with natural wood and plants, while dark midnight grounds create a dramatic, cosy mood in a dining room or main bedroom, especially under warm evening lighting.
Peel & Stick suits renters and smooth, sound, painted walls, and it can be removed later without damaging the paint. Traditional is pasted to the wall and is the better choice for a long-term installation or a wall with a rougher plaster finish. Both reproduce the fine detail of a chinoiserie scene well.
