The pattern combines a warm gold line with a near-black base. Pairing a strong metallic against black creates drama through contrast rather than colour itself, so a single wall in this palette reads bold even before any other colour is introduced to the room.
The ogee-shaped motifs are large enough to read clearly from across a room, with only a few repeats needed to fill a standard wall. Up close the gold line breaks into fine detail, but step back and the overall shape becomes the dominant feature of the wall.
The dark ground and dense gold pattern give it the weight of a feature wall rather than an all-over backdrop, so it works well in dining rooms, living rooms or an entrance hall where there is space to take in the whole design from a distance.
Pattern scale is really judged against the wall it covers, not the room around it. On a short or narrow wall this design can read more like fine texture because less of the repeat is visible, while across a longer wall the gold motifs stand out clearly as the main feature.
Choose the wall you see first when you walk into the room, or the one the furniture is already arranged to face. Papering a wall that is out of sight from the doorway means the pattern does little work, however striking it looks on its own.
